NEAR STATESVILLE, NC – Medical helicopter personnel transported one person to a hospital after an I-77 chain-reaction crash involving two big rigs Thursday.
The events unfolded around 2:30 p.m. when one semi-truck driver struck a second big rig, which led to a collision with six other vehicles, WCNC said.
North Carolina Department of Transportation crews had to shut down all the northbound lanes near U.S. 70 at Exit 46. During the closures, traffic delays on the southbound side could be seen toward I-40 in Statesville and in the northbound directions past mile 36 in Mooresville.
Officials have specified whether it was a truck driver or another motorist or passenger who was hospitalized. The contributing factors behind the wreck remain unclear.
