Man, 43, hospitalized after trash truck rollover crash in Rome

ROME, NY – A 43-year-old man was hospitalized following a trash truck rollover crash that happened off State Route 49 West on Wednesday.

New York State Police told WKTV that the 43-year-old man’s trash truck experienced a tire failure, which led him to lose control of his truck and crash into a guardrail on East Dominick Street. The impact of the collision led his vehicle to overturn, and the contents from the truck were spilled.

EMS crews transported the man to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been identified as Patrick H. Fitzgerald from Waterville, New York.

Police, fire, and transportation workers shut down a portion of the road for the scene clearance process and investigation.

Officers have not yet revealed what caused Fitzgerald to lose control of his truck.
