ROMULUS, NY – Two people are in the hospital after a garbage truck T-boned by a pickup truck at an intersection in Seneca County.
CNY Central reports that the serious accident took place at about 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at the intersection of State Route 96 and State Route 414 in Romulus, NY.
Police say that the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado turned left from Route 414 onto Route 96 without yielding to an oncoming garbage truck, causing the garbage truck to T-bone the Chevy.
The Chevy’s driver became trapped within the wreckage and had to be extricated by fire crews. Emergency responders transported him to Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse by Mercy Flight.
A passenger in the vehicle was taken to the same hospital by a LifeNet helicopter.
The driver of the garbage truck was checked at the scene and found to be unhurt.
State Route 96 was closed for some time as authorities investigated and cleared the collision.
