JONES COUNTY, MS — Multiple injuries were reported last Thursday, February 1, following a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 84 near Laurel, reports WDAM.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Office said the collision occurred on the eastbound lanes of US-84 just past County Line Drive. Jones and Wayne County first responders arrived on the scene at about 6:45 a.m.
An investigation remains ongoing, but officials indicated that the crash caused a hot asphalt tanker to overturn. Early reports suggested that at least one occupant from one of the three vehicles was left trapped, but no other updates about the patients have been disclosed.
A section of the eastbound highway was shut down during the emergency response, forcing traffic to divert from Charlie Green Road to Pleasant Grove Road, and from Mill Creek Road to Myrick Strengthford Road.
Mississippi Department of Transportation officials said the scene was expected to clear at about 12:00 p.m. that afternoon.
