Injuries, entrapment reported after crash involving 18-wheeler near Ellisville

JONES COUNTY, MS — Multiple people were reported hurt Tuesday morning near Ellisville following a multi-vehicle wreck involving an 18-wheeler, according to WDAM.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office said the collision took place at 1924 Mississippi State Highway 29 (MS-29), in the Johnson Community. It was first reported at around 6:50 p.m., drawing a response from several area agencies, including the Johnson Volunteer Fire Department, South Jones Fire and Rescue, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

While the cause of the accident remains unclear, preliminary details indicate a semi-truck, a waste management truck, and a passenger car were all involved.

Several injuries were reported and at least one person was said to have been left trapped, but the JCSO said all patients declined transport to a hospital, suggesting minor injuries. Medical evaluations were conducted on the scene.

At the time of the initial report, the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s traffic map showed backups across all area lanes of traffic. Alternate routes were recommended.
