NEWTON COUNTY, MS — Three people suffered critical injuries Monday due to a crash involving a garbage truck on Interstate 20 in Newton, according to WTOK.
The accident happened on a stretch of the westbound highway between mile marker 108 and past Highway 15/Eastside Drive Extension.
Officials say a garbage truck was traveling eastbound when, for reasons still unclear, it veered past the median and entered the opposing lanes.
It’s unclear exactly how many other vehicles were impacted, but first responders had at least three patients flown to a Jackson hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
All westbound lanes in the area were closed during the emergency response, causing delays in the area.
