Fiery Semi Truck Accident Shuts Down I-196 in Saugatuck Township, MI

SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP, MI – A semi truck drove off an I-196 overpass and burst into flames, causing major delays on Monday morning, WOOD TV reports.

According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred in the northbound lanes of I-196 near the Old Allegan Road overpass just after 7 am. The semi driver lost control in whiteout conditions, careening off the overpass and down an embankment. The truck then burst into flames.

The driver of the truck was helped out of the vehicle by bystanders. He was taken to a nearby hospital. It’s currently unclear whether any other injuries occurred.
