Degreaser spills on I-55 in Akers after injury semi, mail truck crash

AKERS, LA – At least one person was injured in a semi-truck and mail truck crash on I-55 South that caused degreaser to spill on the road on Friday.

WDSU News 6 said the collision happened before 9 a.m. The details leading up to the wreck are unclear. However, footage from the source shows that the impact caused the driver of the semi-truck to hit a barrier on the bridge, causing the truck to then go over the barrier and partially into the water.

The semi-driver inside was able to escape. Crews had to shut down the area for several hours for the clean-up procedure. During the closures, commuters were asked to use U.S. 51 as an alternative route.

Authorities have not disclosed any reports of citations or criminal charges for the involved drivers.
