ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA – A man from Covington as killed in a crash with a semi-truck in St. Tammany Parish early Saturday.
According to a report by WWL, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was headed south on LA-25 at about 5 a.m. when it veered from the roadway for unknown reasons and slammed into a Freightliner that was parked on the shoulder.
Despite wearing a seat belt, the Jeep’s driver suffered severe injuries and was transported to the hospital by EMS, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. He has since been identified as 54-year-old Lonnie Sanchez Jr.
The driver of the Freightliner escaped unharmed, and impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor in the crash. State Police continue to investigate the incident.
