5 hurt as tow truck driver rear-ends school bus in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, LA – The sun’s glare made it difficult for the tow truck driver to see a parked school bus, leading them to rear-end the bus and injuring themself and four children.

According to KSLA, the collision took place before 7:30 a.m. last Thursday, Jan. 16, on North Market Street as the school bus driver was picking up children for school. One child was in the process of boarding the bus when the truck hit the back of the bus. The driver saw what unfolded and was quick to swoop up the child. The Caddo Parish Sheriff said that if the school bus driver did not grab the child, then they could have fallen from the bus.

Authorities informed Caddo School District staff and students’ parents about the incident, who arrived promptly. EMS crews transported the tow truck driver and the kids to hospitals.

The impact left the truck completely mangled and its motorist with life-threatening injuries, which they are currently recovering from. The children did not seem as badly hurt, although they were recovering from non-life-threatening wounds.
