BETHANY, LA – A driver of a red pickup truck died, and a driver of a big rig was injured in a head-on truck collision in Bethany near the Texas and Louisiana state line Sunday.
KSLA said the events unfolded after 1:30 a.m. when the pickup truck driver lost control of their vehicle while driving south on Highway 79. The pickup truck operator veered out of Highway 79 South and into the northbound lanes and struck the big rig head-on.
The 18-wheeler’s cab and the front of the pickup truck were significantly damaged, according to the source’s photos.
Caddo Fire District 3 declared the pickup truck driver dead at the scene at 2:55 a.m. Caddo Parish Coroner’s office identified the victim as 40-year-old Larry Dean McDonald from Deberry, Texas.
Authorities shut down the intersection of Highway 79 and Buncombe Road temporarily for the scene clearance process. All lanes have reopened since.
