Double-fatality crash involving semi closes IN-1 in Wayne Co.

WAYNE CO., IN – A wrong-way collision involving an 18-wheeler and a sedan claimed two lives Monday in Wayne County, Indiana, reports WDTN 2 News.

Around 8:15 p.m., emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 9600 block of IN-1 north of Hagerstown.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a southbound Kia Optima collided head-on with a northbound 2021 International semi-truck when the driver of the Kia entered the northbound lane of the highway in an attempt to pass a slower southbound vehicle.

Authorities declared two people from the Kia deceased at the scene; they’ve not yet been identified.

No other injuries have been reported thus far.

Officials closed IN-1 in the area of the accident while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
