Man, 63, loses life to double tractor-trailer crash in La Place

LA PLACE, IL – A 63-year-old man from Mount Zion lost his life to a double tractor-trailer crash that happened at the intersection of U.S. 36 and Illinois Route 32 on Wednesday.

Illinois State Police told WCIA that the collision took place at 10:45 a.m. Preliminary details show that the 63-year-old man, driving a tractor-trailer, was going west on U.S. 36 when he struck another tractor-trailer going north on Route 32.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene and rushed the two truck drivers to the hospital. There, the 63-year-old man died. He has since been identified as Michael B. Griffith.

First responders did not disclose the physical condition of the surviving occupant.

Officials shut down the area for at least a few hours so crews could clean up the debris from the collision and so police could pursue their investigation. At the time of the reporting, closures were still in place by 1:00 p.m.
