UPDATE: Georgia Truck Driver Charged in Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash

JACKSON COUNTY, GA – The truck driver who was involved in a deadly six-vehicle pileup on I-85 this Monday afternoon has been arrested, NBC News reports.

The accident occurred on I-85 in Jackson County around 4 pm. According to authorities, the semi-truck driver, 33-year-old Kane Aaron Hammock, was following a Dodge van too closely when he rear-ended it, causing a devastating chain reaction that resulted in the van bursting into flames.

The crash killed three adults and five children, all in the same family. One of the victims was believed to have been pregnant. Police have charged Hammock with eight counts of second-degree vehicular homicide and one count of feticide by a vehicle in the second degree, as well as counts of following too closely, no registration, and failure to exercise due care.
