Tanker truck crash closes part of I-285 NB at I-20 in west Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA — A section of northbound Interstate 285 in west Atlanta was closed Monday evening following a tanker truck collision with injuries, reports Atlanta News First.

The accident happened on the northbound lanes approaching I-20 and was first recorded by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) at about 3:51 p.m.

Little information has been made available, but Atlanta News’ First Alert team captured footage that indicates the tanker, which was carrying a container of hazardous pesticide, was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. A hazmat crew were tending to a spill after being unable to prevent a leak.

First responders transported both drivers to an area hospital where the extent of their injuries remains undisclosed.

According to GDOT the scene was expected to be cleared at around 8:30 p.m.
