LYONS, GA – A 44-year-old man was said to have walked amid on-coming traffic when he was struck by a white semi-truck flatbed trailer, leading to his death Friday.
This collision occurred in the vicinity of U.S. Highway 1 South and CH Slaton Road, according to WSAV. The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office noted that the semi-driver, identified as 34-year-old Roberto Cabecera from North Carolina, ended up parking on the shoulder.
Deputies, however, did not specify if the pedestrian was hit while Cabercera was putting the semi-truck in park or struck while the truck was still traveling on the road. Nonetheless, the walker, identified as William Michael Hadlock, from Jessup, died at the scene, while Cabecera was spared from harm.
Additional details, while unconfirmed, alleged that other drivers on the road had to merge lanes to try and avoid striking Hadlock.
The specifics of this crash investigation will be thoroughly inspected by Georgia State Patrol Post 18 (Reidsville), who have not released additional information at this time.
