Semi overturns in Jefferson, sending 1 to hospital

JEFFERSON, GA – One passenger inside a semi-truck was hospitalized after their truck overcorrected and overturned after attempting to avoid hitting another 18-wheeler Monday.

This collision occurred on I-85 North past State Route 53, according to Fox5Atlanta. Georgia State Patrol said the rolled-over semi was carrying explosives but did not say if the materials were hazardous. Nonetheless, officials revealed they closed the northbound lanes after 3 p.m. and reopened the area before 4:30 p.m.

During the closure, drivers in the area were asked to seek alternative routes.

Troopers have not confirmed if the hospitalized person was a passenger or driver, nor did they provide an update on their current condition.
