1 dead after semi hits pickup truck head-on near Cuthbert

RANDOLPH COUNTY, GA –  A semi-truck collided head-on with a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon near Cuthbert, claiming the life of the second driver.

This head-on wreck happened before 2 p.m. on a stretch of Highway 82 West, about three to four miles from the city, according to WALB

Preliminary details collected by Georgia State Patrol show the semi was heading west and the pickup truck was traveling east. At one point, according to the semi driver, one of the truck’s front wheels came off, causing him to veer into the other lane. Moments later, the vehicles struck each other head-on.

The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway and into a ditch and part of the wooded area.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased. At the time of the WALB update on Tuesday afternoon, June 25, troopers were working to notify the family of the victim.

An investigation by GSP remains underway. New details will be posted as our newsroom learns more.
