EATONTON, GA – Three people’s lives were claimed in a rear-end collision between a pickup truck with a trailer and a tractor-trailer Thursday, 13WMAZ said.
Putnam County deputies said the pickup truck driver was traveling at 60 mph when they struck the back of the tractor-trailer waiting at a red light at the intersection of U.S. 441 and Twin Bridges Road Southwest.
The impact of the wreck had trapped all three of the pickup truck occupants. Fire crews were able to extricate all of them. One went on to suffer fatal injuries at the scene, and the other two were transported to Atrium Health Navicent. By 1 p.m., the two others were pronounced dead.
Authorities have since identified the victims as Brysten David Lee Stevens, 18, from Flowery Branch, Johnathan Tyler Haney, 25, from Clermont, and Derek Williams Stevens, 35, from Alto. Officials did not specify which man was driving the pickup truck driver.
At this time, it is also unclear if the big rig driver was injured.
Preliminary details suggest that the pickup truck operator did not press the brakes prior to hitting the truck, as no skid marks were found on the road.
