THOMAS COUNTY, GA – A 66-year-old man lost his life Monday, December 30, when he was struck by a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 19 near Thomasville, according to WALB.
The fatal incident unfolded on the southbound lanes north of Boat Ramp Road at around 7:45 p.m.
According to a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) crash report, the man was walking in the outside lane of the southbound highway (also known as GA-300) when the semi-truck approached from behind. Despite attempts by the driver to avoid a crash, the semi ultimately struck the male pedestrian, and the impact caused him to be thrown nearly 153 feet. The semi then came to a stop on the highway’s west shoulder, about 391 feet from the initial crash site.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An investigation remains in progress. The GSP indicated that the victim’s blood was tested for alcohol, but no results have been released at the time of WALB’s report.
