I-285 blocked after tractor-trailer strikes overpass in Sandy Springs

SANDY SPRINGS, GA – Traffic on I-285 was halted on Wednesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer hit an overpass, causing serious structural damages.

According to Fox 5, the truck, which was hauling an excavator at the time, struck the overpass at Mt. Vernon Parkway at about noon.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Inspectors were sent to examine the bridge, with both the interstate and the overhead structure being shut down in the process. Crews then spent the night continuing the evacuation of the bridge.

All lanes reopened early Thursday morning.
