Driver dies after tractor-trailer rear-ends SUV in Bainbridge

DECATUR COUNTY, GA — A fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer Thursday night in Bainbridge has claimed the life of a 64-year-old woman, according to WALB.

Bainbridge Public Safety officials said the accident happened in the area of Georgia State Highway 38 and Highway 84 at about 5:30 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate the woman was behind the wheel of an SUV that was stopped at a red light on GA-38 at Highway 84. For reasons still being investigated, her SUV was hit from behind by the big rig.

Georgia State Patrol officials said the impact caused the SUV to overturn before catching fire.

First responders rushed the driver of the SUV to an area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries, confirmed officials. At the time of WALB’s report, the Decatur County coroner was working to notify the victim’s family.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances oft he wreck.
