SYLVESTER, GA – A driver was critically injured in a big rig rollover collision that happened on Highway 82 near Woodcrest Road Wednesday.
WALB said the driver was operating a 2014 Western Star truck and going east on the highway when they went off the road and overcorrected. Moments later, the truck flipped over twice, crashed into an electric pole, and then came to rest outside Bright Star Morning Star Church.
Georgia State Patrol, Worth County Fire Rescue, GA Department of Transportation crews, and medical helicopter personnel all responded to the scene. Helicopter personnel transported the driver to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A portion of the highway was temporarily blocked off to make way for the helicopter. All lanes have since reopened.
Georgia State Patrol is actively working to determine why the driver had drifted off the road.
