2 injured in fiery garbage truck vs. semi crash in Floyd Co.

FLOYD CO., GA – Two drivers were hospitalized following a cash involving a garbage truck and a semi-truck north of Rome last Wednesday, July 12th.

According to a report by Northwest Georgia News, the truck stopped on the side of GA-140 east of US-27 to collect garbage when it was struck by a semi.

A witness to the crash jumped into action, extricating the driver of the semi as the cab became engulfed in flames. The driver was subsequently rushed to an area hospital. The extent of his injuries is not mentioned in the report.

The garbage truck driver was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. However, driver fatigue is believed to be a factor.
