2 hospitalized after tractor-trailer slams into patrol units on I-285 in South Fulton County

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, GA – A driver faces multiple charges after his tractor-trailer crashed into three patrol units Wednesday morning in East Point, according to WSB-TV Atlanta 2.

The wreck occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 285 at Camp Creek Parkway.

East Point Police said the big rig driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to slow down before striking the vehicles, which were at the scene of a prior crash. They have since been charged with “driving too fast for conditions, move-over law violation and prohibited lane usage by trucks” on multi-use highways.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, one officer was inside his vehicle at the time, while another officer, who was standing outside, was hit when his own patrol unit was struck. The third officer was not reported injured.

First responders had the injured officers transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. No information about their conditions has been disclosed.
