1 sent to hospital after truck overturns on I-85 north of Midtown Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA — At least one person was rescued and sent to a hospital early Tuesday after a truck overturned on Interstate 85, north of Midtown Atlanta, reports 11Alive.

The accident unfolded on the northbound lanes of I-85 approaching the Buford-Spring Connector, causing significant delays in both directions.

Georgia State Patrol officials said a driver of a truck was cut off by another vehicle, prompting the truck to swerve to avoid a collision. The abrupt move caused the truck to roll over as it crossed all lanes of traffic and struck as many as four other northbound vehicles before crashing through the median wall.

First responders were observed rescuing one person from the overturned truck and placing the victim in an ambulance, but authorities have not confirmed the exact number of those hurt or the extent of injuries sustained.

At the time of the initial report, northbound traffic on the Downtown Connector was backed up into Midtown, and all of I-85 South was backed up to North Druid Hills Road. GA-400 South was also impacted by delays in the area approaching I-85.

At the time of 11Alive’s 12:15 p.m. update, crews were still repairing the divider, but all travel lanes had been reopened to traffic.
