METTER, GA – One person was killed, and another was hospitalized after a rear-end semi-truck crash on I-16 West near mile marker 101 Friday.
Georgia State Patrol told WJCL that the events unfolded after one semi-truck driver, who was parked in an emergency lane, had merged out of that and into the right lane. As they were changing lanes, that’s when they were rear-ended by a second semi-truck.
The driver of the second semi-truck lost their life, while the first semi-truck driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers issued a several-hour-long closure for the interstate, beginning at 9:15 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m. During the closures, drivers were asked to take the exit to Excelsior Church Road, go onto Highway 46, and then take Highway 57.
Law enforcement has not released the identities of those involved in the crash.
