1 killed, 1 injured as pickup truck hits big rig parked on I-75 near Tifton

TIFT COUNTY, GA — A 61-year-old man lost his life Monday afternoon as a result of a crash involving a parked big rig on Interstate 75 near Tifton, according to WALB.

Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers were called to the scene on the northbound lanes near Exit 55 to Omega Eldorado Road. Dispatchers were first alerted some time before 12:02 p.m.

An early investigation shows the victim, Frederick Winn, a resident of Roswell, Georgia, was operating a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck northbound under heavy rainfall. As he exited the road, the pickup struck a parked and unoccupied bobtail rig on the roadway’s east emergency lane. The impact of the crash caused the truck to catch fire.

While first responders were able to extricate Frederick and his wife, 61-year-old Sandra Winn, from the wreckage, Frederick succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

EMS personnel rushed Sandra to Tift Regional Hospital for unspecified injuries.

The accident left two out of the three total lanes blocked for nearly two hours as officials processed the scene.

No further information has been made available at his time.
