ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA — One person died early Wednesday after their car collided with a big rig on Interstate 20 near Conyers, reports 11Alive.
The fatal collision unfolded on the westbound side of I-20, at Exit 80 to West Avenue. Georgia Department of Transportation crews were dispatched to the scene at about 1:38 a.m.
Georgia State Patrol officials said a tractor-trailer was heading westbound at the same time a Honda Fit was traveling eastbound, against traffic. At one point, the front of the Honda collided with the big rig’s backside axle and rolled over. The car struck a guardrail as it overturned and then arrived at a rest.
The tractor-trailer appeared to proceed forward until it veered and came to a rest off the right westbound shoulder.
First responders pronounced the driver of the car deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.
