Woman dies following crash with tractor-trailer on SR-19 in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, FL — An 18-wheeler traveled into the path of an SUV Tuesday morning on State Route 19 in Howey-in-the-Hills, causing a crash that claimed the life of a 73-year-old woman, reports Click Orlando.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said the fatal wreck unfolded at the intersection with Obrien Road.

A 43-year-old man from Palm Springs was said to have driving the tractor-trailer eastbound on Obrien Road at the same time the victim was operating a 2017 Toyota 4-Runner southbound on SR-19. Preliminary details show the driver of the big rig turned left onto the highway and into the direct path of the victim’s vehicle, causing the vehicles to collide.

The FHP crash report indicates the woman was rushed to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Troopers confirmed the male driver, who was not hurt in the wreck, remained at the scene.

The intersection was blocked off for the emergency response and investigation, which remains underway.
