Update: Details emerge in fatal van vs. tractor-trailer crash near Gainesville

MARION CO., FL – Troopers have released additional details concerning a deadly crash that took place on I-75 near the Alachua/Marion County line on Saturday afternoon.

According to WKMG, a 57-year-old Jacksonville woman was driving a van in the center lane near mile marker 372 at about 4:47 p.m. when it attempted to change lanes to the right outside lane, colliding with a heavy-duty truck being driven by a 36-year-old Tampa man.

Both vehicles then overturned and struck multiple trees on the right grassy shoulder.

The van’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck’s driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The southbound lanes of I-75 were shut down for some time following the fatal crash. All lanes have since reopened.
