KISSIMMEE, FL – Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that a driver of a Ford Focus car played a major part in a fiery semi-truck on I-4 in Kissimmee Monday.
According to new details from WESH, the car driver was going west on the interstate, with the big rig next to it, when it crashed into the right side of the truck, which caused the big rig to lose control of their vehicle and crash into a median. The force of the collision caused the truck to overturn and catch on fire.
In addition, the big rig also spilled fertilizer, prompting a several-hour closure for the west and eastbound lanes. Authorities reopened the westbound lanes after 7:30 p.m. and the eastbound lanes after 4 p.m.
Officials are working to determine which driver lost control of their vehicle first.
The car driver has since been identified as a 29-year-old man from New Jersey, and the car driver as a 59-year-old man from Polk City. Both drivers were spared from injuries and remained at the scene.
