SUV driver hurt in crash with semi, truck trailer in Miami

MIAMI, FL – When a Dodge pickup truck’s trailer became detached, it caused a semi-truck driver and a Chevrolet SUV driver to hit the trailer, injuring the SUV motorist in the process Wednesday.

NBC Miami said this collision took place before 6:15 a.m. when the Dodge motorist was trying to turn left from Krome Avenue onto Southwest 122nd Street, and then was hit by the SUV. This crash caused the trailer to detach and that’s when the big rig collided with the trailer. As a result, the SUV man became pinned inside his car, prompting fire crews to conduct an extrication that involved cutting out the SUV roof in order to free him.

Once the extrication was complete, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter personnel then airlifted the man to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he is currently listed in serious condition.

Florida Highway Patrol, who were among the first responders, did not disclose the contributing factors behind this crash or state the two truck drivers’ current conditions.
