Semitrailer driver killed in crash off I-95 near NW Melbourne

BREVARD COUNTY, FL — A semitrailer crashed into the woods off Interstate 95 near northwest Melbourne late Tuesday, claiming the life of a 64-year-old man, according to Click Orlando.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene near mile marker 184, north of West Eau Gallie Boulevard (State Highway 518), shortly after 11:35 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim, a Cutler Bay resident, was operating a 2007 semitrailer northbound when, for reasons still unknown, he veered across the travel lanes. As he overcorrected, the semi traveled across the entire northbound highway and then into the nearby woods, where it crashed.

The FHP crash report indicates the male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other occupants or vehicles appear to have been involved.
