Semi vs. pickup crash on FL-78 in Okeechobee kills woman

OKEECHOBEE, FL – A two-vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler killed one person on Tuesday in Okeechobee, Florida, reports LakeONews.Com.

Shortly before 12:45 p.m., emergency crews responded to a head-on crash along FL-78 near the Big O RV Resort between Eagle Bay and C. Scott Driver Park.

Police say that an eastbound 18-wheeler swerved onto the westbound side of the highway to avoid rear-ending a stopped vehicle. The semi then crashed head-on into a westbound Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck died after transport to an area hospital. Thus far, police have only identified the victim as a 65-year-old Okeechobee woman.

It’s unclear if anyone else sustained injuries in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
