LAKELAND, FL – A 40-year-old man driving a car passed away, and a semi-truck driver sustained minor wounds after both vehicles collided head-on Thursday.
The Lakeland Police Department told ClickOrlando that this collision unfolded when the 40-year-old man operating a Toyota Camry started driving east on westbound New Tampa Highway and then crashed head-on into the semi, leading the 18-wheeler to roll over.
Upon arrival, an ambulance took the car driver, who was later identified as Gary Carmean, to Lakeland Regional Health, where he succumbed to fatal wounds.
Officials, which also consisted of Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department, did not confirm whether an ambulance also took the semi-truck driver to a hospital.
Crews closed the area for three hours in order to accommodate the scene clearance and investigation process.
Officers have not released other information at this time.
