Semi jackknifes amid heavy rain in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, FL – A semi-truck driver had collided with a guardrail on I-10 West amid a heavy storm, leading the truck to jackknife and come to rest Wednesday.

Florida Highway Patrol told WCTV that the motorist was “traveling too fast for conditions” and drifted off the road to avoid striking the truck in front of them. Upon hitting the guardrail, more than 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road, leading officials to close the area so the Florida Department of Transportation, the Tallahassee Police Department, and the Department of Environmental Protection could clean up the mess.

Troopers said they cited the driver for “careless driving” and confirmed they did not suffer significant injuries.

Officials have not provided an update on the motorist’s current condition.
