Semi driver hurt, 2 killed in sideswipe, fiery crash in LaBelle

LABELLE, FL – A  driver of a pickup truck sideswiped an SUV and hit a semi, leading the two trucks to catch on fire, injuring the semi driver and killing the pickup truck occupants Friday.

After the two initial vehicles collided on State Road 80 before 4 p.m., the pickup truck then crossed several lanes before colliding with the semi, thus initiating the fire, NBC-2 reported.

Upon arrival, Florida Highway Patrol said the pickup truck occupants — an 18-year-old man and 54-year-old man, both from LaBelle — passed away at the scene, while the semi motorist suffered minor wounds.

FHP has not confirmed who the pickup truck driver was.
