Man dies following double-semi crash on I-75 in Fort Myers

LEE COUNTY, FL — A multi-vehicle wreck involving two semi-trucks Tuesday in Fort Myers claimed the life of a 28-year-old man, according to WINK.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said the accident happened on the southbound lanes, north of Luckett Road.

An early investigation found that the victim was driving a Chevy Malibu behind a semi-truck with a trailer carrying sod. As both vehicles began slowing down due to congestion ahead, a semi-truck with an empty trailer was approaching from behind in the right southbound lane.

Authorities said the driver of the unloaded semi-trailer, a 55-year-old man, did not slow down in time, causing the semi’s front collided with the rear of the Chevy Malibu. The impact of that crash sent the Chevy Malibu crashing into the back of the loaded semi.

First responders pronounced the driver of the Chevy Malibu deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.

A full investigation remains open and ongoing.
