BREVARD COUNTY, FL — Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a fatal pedestrian crash involving two semi-trucks Monday morning on Interstate 95 in Melbourne, reports WFTV9.
The incident took place on the northbound lanes at mile marker 190, south of Brevard Zoo and North Wickham Road. It was first reported shortly before 8:00 a.m.
An early investigation indicates that both tractor-trailers were northbound on I-95 when a 57-year-old man from New York stepped onto the highway. Moments after entering the direct traffic, he was struck by each semi.
First responders pronounced the male pedestrian deceased at the scene.
No injuries to either truck driver were reported.
According to the FHP website, the right northbound lane of I-95 remained blocked until at least 10:30 a.m., more than two hours after the incident.
An investigation remains open and ongoing.
