Man, 28, killed in rear-end crash involving box truck in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A 28-year-old man, local to Jacksonville, died after rear-ending a box truck with his pickup truck on Buckman Bridge Monday.

The rear-end crash happened around 6 a.m. on the southbound lanes. Florida Highway Patrol told The Florida-Times Union that for reasons unclear, the pickup truck driver had veered into the emergency lane, where the disabled box truck was, and crashed into it. The pickup truck blocked the right and center lanes as a result.

The pickup truck driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene while the box truck driver, a 43-year-old man from Tampa, and his passenger, a 27-year-old adult, were uninjured.

Troopers shut down the southbound lanes for several hours.
