Hit-and-run driver charged after fatal crash involving tractor-trailer on I-295 in Jacksonville

DUVAL COUNTY, FL — A 24-year-old woman has been arrested and charged following a multi-vehicle crash Monday in west Jacksonville that claimed the life of a 42-year-old man, reports News4Jax.

The fatal incident unfolded on the northbound lanes of Interstate 295 at the ramp to I-10.

An early investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office indicates the suspect Kaylyn Lowdenslager, was operating a black Nissan Altima on a suspended license when she lost control of the vehicle. Shortly after, the Nissan struck a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was stopped behind a big rig on the side of the highway exit ramp.

The driver of the pickup, who was outside of his vehicle and working with another man to repair a tire on the tractor-trailer, was hit by the pickup and was left pinned against the big rig. First responders pronounced him deceased at the scene.

Authorities said Lowdenslager ran from the scene but was later located and arrested. She has since been charged with “leaving the scene of a deadly crash, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use.”

Lowdenslager may face additional charges depending on results to a blood analysis, which was pending at the time of News4Jax’s report.
