Head-on semi wreck near Perry claims 1 life, critically hurts another

NEAR PERRY, FL – A 71-year-old Lafayette County man lost his life, and a 52-year-old Missouri man was critically injured in a head-on semi-truck wreck Tuesday.

Florida Highway Patrol told WCTV that around 8:45 a.m., the 71-year-old man driving a semi-truck had first crashed into a guardrail on US. 221 North. This incident then caused him to drift into the southbound lanes and hit another big rig operated by the 52-year-old man.

The impact of the wreck caused the 52-year-old man’s truck to jackknife and the 71-year-old man’s tractor-trailer to go over a guardrail before breaking into several pieces. Troopers confirmed the drivers did not wear seatbelts.

Medical helicopter personnel were summoned to the crash site and rushed the 52-year-old man to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital by Life Flight, while the 71-year-old man perished at the scene.
