PUNTA GORDA, FL – Emergency responders rescued a 67-year-old man after he fell off a bridge following a collision with a semi-truck in Charlotte County on Wednesday morning, Gulf Coast News reports.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on northbound I-75 near exit 166. After the collision, both vehicles pulled off onto the emergency lane. The 67-year-old driver attempted to walk along the ledge of a bridge to reach the semi-truck driver and fell approximately 45 feet into a wooded area.
Rescue crews responded to the scene and used an aerial device to lower rescuers on a rope to where the man had fallen. He was then transported to an area hospital.
The accident is under investigation.
