HOLLYWOOD, FL – A driver was entrapped inside his red big rig after a light pole struck his truck, causing it to overturn Thursday.
The solo collision took place at the southbound FL’s Turnpike and Hollywood Boulevard connector, Local 10 said. Before Florida Highway Patrol and fire crews arrived at the scene, Local 10 reporter Roy Ramos, who witnessed the scene, tried to help the truck driver escape from his vehicle. Another good samaritan joined Ramos, stating that the victim’s legs were sticking out from the shattered truck windshield.
The witness used metal shears to help extricate the man. The operation worked, and the man was able to get out unharmed.
Florida Highway Patrol said the impact of the crash caused a wine container from the truck to roll over and fall onto a ditch. Tow truck crews were able to retrieve the container and remove it from the scene.
Crews shut down a large portion of the area to accommodate the scene clearance process before later reopening the area.
