Driver seriously hurt in Marion County crash involving ambulance

MARION COUNTY, FL — One person was rushed to a hospital Thursday after their pickup truck collided with an ambulance near southwest Ocala, reports ClickOrlando.com.

The accident happened at the intersection of Southwest Highway 484 and Marion Oaks Pass. It was first reported by Marion County Fire Rescue officials at 12:05 p.m.

Details regarding the cause and nature of the crash have not been provided, but the driver of the pickup had to be extricated from the vehicle and then transported to an area hospital under a trauma alert, indicating major injuries.

No patients were being transported in the ambulance at the time of the wreck. While an EMT and a paramedic who were in the vehicle were assessed at the scene, both declined additional treatment.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate, but the MCFR said the involved crew was not cited following the event.
