PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — A fiery two-vehicle collision Friday morning near Jupiter has claimed a driver’s life, according to WPTV.
The accident unfolded on the southbound side of Florida’s Turnpike at mile marker 113, in an area north of the PGA Boulevard exit. Florida Highway Patrol officials said they received an alert at 1:16 a.m.
Preliminary details indicate that a vehicle fire had initially cause traffic to slow and come to a stop on the southbound turnpike. A 2022 white Dailmer tractor-trailer combo was among stopped traffic, facing south in the outer lane. At one point, a woman who was driving a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck approached the area.
Authorities said she appeared to have been unable to slow down, stop or swerve the pickup before it collided with the back of the big rig. The impact of the crash sent the Dodge underneath the truck.
The FHP confirmed that the driver of the pickup, a woman whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was pronounced deceased after her vehicle burst into flames and became fully engulfed.
No injuries to the truck driver, a 57-year-old man, were reported.
An investigation remains in progress.
