DAVIE, FL – One driver was injured, and a gasoline tanker truck caught on fire after a crash with a Broward County bus on I-595 West Sunday.
Florida Highway Patrol told NBC Miami that the events unraveled around 10 a.m. when the driver of the tanker truck sideswiped a Broward County Transit bus that was parked on the left shoulder. The impact of the collision caused the truck driver to lose control of their vehicle before slamming into a median wall. Moments later, the truck caught on fire.
Fire crews established the flames, and EMS crews took the truck driver to a hospital for their minor burns.
Troopers and transportation personnel shut down I-595 West for several hours. During the closures, westbound drivers were told to use SR-84 West along the exit to Hiatus Road as an alternative route.
Officials reopened the area before 9 p.m.
