BAY COUNTY, FL – An SUV driver had failed to maintain a lane, causing her to lose control of her car and strike a flatbed tow truck responding to a previous wreck last Saturday.
The events unfolded after 5:30 a.m. on Thomas Drive. MyPanHandle said the SUV driver, a 65-year-old woman from Memphis, Tennessee, was going east on Thomas, making her way toward Crescent, where she lost control and hit the tow truck (parked in a center lane and had flashing lights), and the tow truck driver, standing outside the truck.
The SUV driver sustained serious wounds and was trapped inside her vehicle, requiring extrication from fire crews. At the time of the reporting, fire crews were able to successfully free her and waited for an ambulance to arrive so she could go to the hospital. Authorities have not specified whether this woman would be cited or face criminal charges for failing to maintain a lane and yield to emergency vehicles.
As for the tow truck driver, officials did not confirm whether he was injured when he was hit.
Florida Highway Patrol, who were among the emergency crews summoned to the scene, said the tow truck was corresponding with a trooper regarding the removal of impounding one of the vehicles left over from a previous crash (that happened a few hours) that ended in an arrest.
