Driver dies after pickup truck slams into semi on US-27 in Lake Wales

POLK COUNTY, FL — A man from Sebring died Monday morning following a crash involving a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 27 in south Lake Wales, reports ABC Action News.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal accident happened at Harbor Drive, shortly before 7:30 a.m.

According to preliminary details, the victim was driving a white 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck on the northbound outside lane when the vehicle collided with the trailer of a semi-truck making a U-turn from US-27.

While both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, officials said the driver of the GMC died from his injuries at the scene. His identity remains undisclosed at this time.

The driver of the semi, a 34-year-old Ocala man, was not reported hurt. It was not immediately clear which driver was at fault and whether any charges are expected to be filed against the surviving driver.
